The Grange Gardens Sculpture Project is a proposal-based competition where the winning artist will be commissioned to create a site-specific, permanent installation within the communal living space of Grange Gardens in Bermondsey. The winning artist will be awarded £5,000 prize money as well as receiving up to £35,000 for materials to bring their proposal into fruition.
A shortlist of artists or artistic groups has been selected from initial submissions, each providing unique and ambitious proposals that explore the multifaceted medium of sculpture. The artists have endeavored to construct proposals for a sculpture that balance the elements of its architectural and contextual environment. The artists' proposals will be on display to the general public at the Grange Gardens development between 11 27 March, 2011, where they will also be assessed by the judging panel in terms of conceptual specificity, originality, interactivity and materialisation. The judging panel will announce the artist and winning proposal at the close of the exhibition.
