AboutWhat exactly is the current generation up to? Confronted with a plethora of pictures from the Internet and the seductions of the digital cosiness it develops a kind of immunity towards general categorizations of identity and political patent remedies.
Instead of lapsing into frantic activism they observe the changes in their environment. Long lost values and terms are reinterpreted as the Freies Museum Berlin is showing with another glance into art universities: Following the exhibition of Candice Breitz master students, this time students of Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe are going to present photography, video works and homemade jam, found in grandmother's pickles archive or any other analogue cabinet of curiosities.
The handling with the pictures found there, as family albums, notes of itineraries and records of hairdresser appointments can cope occasionally without any pathos, irony or criticism. Equipped with sound scepticism, the young artists dedicate themselves to a close examination of existing archives. Right there they find the ordinary live and its artistic potential, an adventure that fits into a world that appears to be perfect in its technocratic cosiness.
