Grammar of the Ornament

About

14 Oct - 17 Nov Artists: Adam Ball, Janne Malmros, Mathew Tom Grammar of the Ornament is an exhibition showcasing the works of three talented new contemporaries; Adam Ball, Janne Malmros & Mathew Tom. The title of exhibition closely references the seminal text of 19th century architect, illustrator and illuminator Owen Jones, who formulated a set of key principles for ornamentation in the decorative arts. This October Adam Ball, Janne Malmros & Mathew Tom each present a new take on ornamentation within contemporary artistic discourse. The exhibition will include a large scale landscape painting and intricately cut paper editions by Adam Ball, screen prints on paper with gold leaf detailing by Janne Malmros and an incredible array of oil paintings by Mathew Tom, influenced by his time spent in India. As well as this Janne Malmros will be presenting an installation in the lower ground floor of the gallery. Together these artists reflect new and innovative ways of utilising the age old botanical motif, taking on Jones' principles of ornamentation but with modern elucidation. Sponsored by 1 of 1000 and Mason & Taylor
