los dioses no se ven, pero se oyen (gods cannot be seen but can be heard) is a sound work, presented as an immersive installation for this event in collaboration with Infrasonica.

The piece, realised by Ulrik in collaboration with Alina Maldonado, is composed of several soundscapes from three Mayan sites in the Yucatan peninsula. Replicas of Mayan flutes were brought to these archaeological sites, played and recorded.

Accompanying the audio work is a written text. Part of the work itself, it relays a consultation between Ulrik Lopez, musician Alina Maldonado, the spirits that still inhabit these places, and our kin from different timelines.

This immersive sound experience will help shape a future work that will debut on Infrasonica’s Wave #6 in January 2022. Wave #6 is part of Audible Matter, Infrasonica’s second Current, which aims to think about the conjuncture of soundings and knowing-the-world through an audible experience.

COVID-19

Due to the ongoing pandemic we request all guests take a lateral flow test before attending and we require facemasks to be worn throughout the event.

PARTNERSHIP

This event is a collaboration between Delfina Foundation and Infrasonica.

Infrasonica is a digital platform of non-Western cultures. It records, analyses and debates the eeriness of sound and its auras, linked to the world with the audible, the hidden and the sensitive. The platform includes archives of experimental sound and visual practices, as well as theoretical musings on contemporary critical thought. By relying on a borderless network of collaborators, Infrasonica blends essays, conversations and speculative works that encourage critical curatorial and research projects.
