Glaslyn is a show of new paintings by Daniel Crawshaw. Derived from photographic explorations of an obscure Welsh mountainside the works reflect an on going and absorbing interest in the notion of the ‘sublime’ and probe the boundaries between painterly and photographic processes.
About
Crawshaw’s paintings all in oil on canvas or board seem to occupy the space between documentary realism and memory. Articulating subtle atmospheric qualities they convey a sense of geographic familiarity yet possess a psychological tension that is solitary and remote. Here the haunting vista of a dark lake, the eponymous ‘Glaslyn’, beneath a snow clad rock face is repeated through images of shifting scale.
