Aboutaspex selected Ginny Topp as recipient of our MA Graduate Award in 2012, and we are delighted to be presenting an exhibition of her ceramics and video work in our cafe space.
Central to the way I work is the importance of process and use of materials where the physical activity of making and experiencing the material is fundamental to my practice. Much of my recent work has been autobiographical considering identity and the phenomenology of illness where the themes of transition and deconstruction are greatly significant in my thinking and philosophy.
The work shown reflects my lived experience of breast cancer and is my response to the diagnosis, the surgery I underwent and the subsequent chemotherapy and its effects.
This work is dedicated to all those facing cancer now and in the future. I hope my work gives them strength for the battle.
