About
Gilly conjures up an abstract narrative in her delicate paintings which depict the strength of our past experiences in informing our future decisions. Etherial elements provide an interesting contrast to the bold colors creating fields of tension and movement. Her work is a calm meditation in which the viewer in invited to submerge themselves in a coexisting world of past and present, where the pale projection of the future is implied, but not explicitly mentioned.
Jo uses British limestone, elvan and slate as her primary mediums. She imbues the stone she uses with a focus on transforming a beautiful natural, often overlooked medium into something monumental and lasting. Her subjects are valuable moments gathered from memory and are usually concerned with delicate bucolic forms, which combine to create a sense of harmony with the natural world.
