Join us for a creative workshop inspired by our exhibition for curious explorers, 'Shifting Borders'.

About

Led by artist Joanna Whittle, this hands-on session will introduce you to creative mapmaking techniques. Come and create your own new and imagined worlds!

The workshop will begin with a tour of 'Shifting Borders: A Journey to the Centre of our World(s)'. Be inspired by different ways people map the world around them.

You will then use the essential elements of mapmaking and drawing techniques to create your own unique world.

Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring any other material that inspires your own imagined map. This imaginative workshop is suitable for all skills and abilities.

Joanna Whittle is a painter who creates narrative artefacts. Recent projects include On Shifting Ground, Whitaker Museum, Lancashire, 2022; Material Mourning, Millenium Gallery, 2022; and Between Islands, Welbeck Estate, 2020. She is a founding member of the Heavy Water Collective who engage with archives and collections in the production of new archival material, most recently working with Cardiff University Special Collections, Sheffield General Cemetery and the University of Leeds Special Collections. She is also a member of the Contemporary British Painting Society.
