‘Solo Romantika’, a new performance, sound and video installation work by Gery Georgieva, forms the second of three solo shows produced by #temporarycustodians at Res.
Georgieva (born Varna, 1986) presents her renditions of emotive folk and pop solos. Performing alone in her studio she lip-syncs rare groove soul tracks to camera and records a cappella ensembles of Bulgarian laments. An elaborate layering of references across costume, props and script, add up to an ambiguous cultural vernacular. A fugitive from authenticity, Georgieva is empowered by a mobilisation of her Bulgarian extraction, using the immediacy of her own body to format and reformat an image of taste and belonging.
Alongside the exhibitions programme at Res, #temporarycustodians will be enacting the distribution of ‘Performance Publishing: Regent Trading Estate’ (2013) an artwork by Maurice Carlin. We invite you to join a pot-luck dinner at 8pm on Monday 27th April to discuss and join the legal and company structure for the artwork, which will be co-owned by temporary custodian shareholders.
