A solo exhibition of paintings from the George Tute RWA RE, alongside his figurative ceramic sculpture and commercially successful wood engravings.
About
Tute’s paintings have a dreamlike aura and are dense with mythology, personal symbolism and subtle literary references. A strong sense of storytelling runs throughout his work, with surreal twists, playful bursts of colour and compelling interpretations of imaginary worlds.
This exhibition celebrates Tute’s long and rewarding career with the launch of his latest publication, Then and Now, tracing a lifetime of work and his vast contribution to the world of art, design and education.
After working for many years as a Principle Lecturer and Director of Studies at the UWE (1962-85), Tute developed a rewarding career as a painter, wood engraver and freelance book illustrator. He is a highly respected member of the Royal West of England Academy, a fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and Former Chairman of the Society of Wood Engravers.
