GEOMETRIC SEQUENCES : fiona grady & patrick misfud

About

‘Geometric Sequences' is an exhibition that explores the relationship between Fiona Grady's and Patrick Mifsud's joint interest in drawing, sculpture and geometry. Following a successful collaboration for Art Lacuna in 2013, the artists began a discourse on the shared concerns of their work. HUSK gallery has invited them to continue this discussion with a joint show. Both artists create site-specific interventions that interact with the architectural space in which they are formed, challenging the viewers' perception of the space and often creating new definitions. They both use geometry and repetition of imagery as a language to set in place an understanding of the artwork's structure and the space which it occupies. However, the difference in their practice lies in how they work through this logic. Mifsud will be exploring geometric forms with a series of works drawn using a straight line whilst Grady's work will use the curved line. This interplay will highlight the extensive possibilities of the drawn line as well as their different approaches towards site, form and geometry. For 'Geometric Sequences' each artist will be creating new in-situ installations for HUSK gallery. These will be shown alongside a selection of works on paper that neither artist has exhibited before. In their individual practices, they both use drawing as a means to devise ideas and develop new material. These have been made in tandem with installations but are also important works in their own right that give an additional insight into the artists' working methods. Patrick Mifsud exhibited widely in the UK and Malta. He was a prizewinner at Creekside Open 2011, selected by Phyllida Barlow. Recent exhibitions include ‘Situation/Intervention: Construct/De-construct' at Two Queens Gallery, Leicester, ‘Divergent Thinkers' at St James Cavalier, Malta, ‘The Revolution Will Not Be Televised' at Art Lacuna, London and a solo exhibition ‘On Different Levels' at Marsden Woo Gallery. Fiona Grady has been selected for several printmaking prizes including Clifford Chance's survey of MA printmaking 2011 and Bainbridge Open 2013. In 2012 she was invited to create an artwork for Deptford Rail Station's concourse and most recently was commissioned to make a wall drawing in Leeds Town Hall, as part of Light Night 2013. Upcoming exhibitions include a commission for Beacons Festival 2014 and her first solo show in London ‘Fields of Light' at the Barbican Arts Trust. Her work is owned in private and public collections. Both artists live and work in London. They met whilst studying MA Fine Art at Wimbledon College of Fine Art (UAL) London. www.patrickmifsud.com www.fionagrady.co.uk
