Guest speaker Hazel Reeves and host Susan J Mumford will provide perspective, statistics and solutions to help men and women alike who value equality and want all talented voices to be equally heard and seen. 

The following questions will be answered: 

> What are the realities of working in the art world for women vs men?

> How are these experiences supported by statistics as well as real world stories?
> Why is equal representation better for everyone? 
> How can we understand and recognise the basics of bias?
> What is the role of male colleagues, institutions, and individuals working in leadership roles or positions of power in making change? 

> What are we now seeing as a result of #MeToo, the Women’s Marches and more?

The talk will be followed by a Q+A where you will get your chance to ask questions and input.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

HAZEL REEVES MRBS SWA FRSA is a figurative sculptor, driven to tell the stories of struggles for social justice and to redress the lack of representation of women in public art. In the past year alone she’s won two prestigious commissions against tough competition: the statue to celebrate the Carlisle women biscuit factory workers – the ‘Cracker Packers, and the Emmeline Pankhurst statue for St Peter’s Square, Manchester. These successes come on the heels of her statue of Sir Nigel Gresley, at King’s Cross station. Hazel is a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors (RBS) and the Society of Women Artists (SWA).

SUSAN J MUMFORD is a game-changer in the 21st Century art world. She’s an entrepreneur in the art, tech and training space. While running her own gallery in Soho, London, she founded the Association of Women Art Dealers (AWAD), an international non-profit membership network that facilitates business and collaborations with members operating to high professional standards. This was followed by the creation of Be Smart About Art, an online-accessible professional development platform based out of London that helps creative professionals thrive in a changing world. In late 2015, her first book was published: Art is your life. Make it your living. In 2019, she’s launching a start-up, Artyml, that addresses anti-money laundering legislation hitting the art market in 2020.

Based in Lewes, East Sussex, Susan works locally, in London, around the UK, the USA, Continental Europe and online, running workshops, lectures and courses, delivering 1-2-1 sessions, facilitating panel discussions, judging prizes and more.
