Gasworks presents two films by artist Patricia Domínguez. Domínguez's films incorporates acid colours, homemade props and optical illusions to induce hallucinatory experiences.
Throughout May and June 2020 Gasworks presents a second series of online screenings of artist films commissioned for our exhibitions programme over the last few years. Featuring works by Beatriz Santiago Muñoz, Patricia Domínguez, and Mathieu Kleyebe Abonnenc, each piece is available to stream on Gasworks’ website for two weeks and is accompanied by interviews with the artists, texts and reviews.
For this presentation, Patricia Domínguez will screen Eyes of Plants (2019) and Mother Drone (2020).
Domínguez’s films incorporate acid colours, homemade props and optical illusions to induce a hallucinatory experience. In Eyes of Plants, symbols and rituals are intertwined with ideas of extraction, cultural appropriation and the destruction of natural heritage due to rampant industrialisation. Mother Drone’s similarly dreamlike aesthetic makes connections between a mystical being’s projecting light and the laser lights used by protesters to blind spy drones during the recent student riots in Chile.
