About

Pop by Transition Two Gallery on Sunday 28, between 3 and 6pm to get your hands on the latest issue of Garageland, a journal dedicated to art, ideas and culture.

Special offers and afternoon refreshments, what more do you need!

Garageland 22 (Difficult) Women, features a fabulous cover, ‘Dora’ by Cathie Pilkington.  Guest edited by art historian Arlene Leis, this issue focuses on historical and contemporary women artists and discourse, and explores a wide range of art making and enduring political subjects pertaining to race, class, religion and sexual orientation that remain relevant today. 'Within this space', says Leis 'I hope to encompass a plurality of perspectives, and in doing so, sometimes reveal a provocation of contradictions.'

Issue highlights include a portfolio of (Difficult) Women artworks, fashion notes (from handbags to cowboy boots), interviews with contemporary artists Gaye Chen, Güler Ates, Cathie Pilkington, Kathy Dalwood and Ilona Szalay, profiles of difficult women in the long 18th century and a look at the career of pioneering artist Annie Swynnerton.

Elsewhere our regular Film Club section includes writing on 60s starlet Tuesday Weld, Lesbian Cinema and The Women; and in our WWW section we feature Grant Foster's painting Youth Serum, A touring exhibition about Christine Keeler, feminist artist Barbara T Smith, Tudor women at Hever Castle and two aid projects that put women first.

Contributors to the issue are:
