About
Over 35 game designers who have made a significant and ongoing impact in the field are profiled throughout the exhibition, including the most famous and influential creators in the history of the medium. The designers’ work is explored through a combination of rare concept artwork, specially commissioned interviews and playable games ranging from original classic arcade machines from the 1970s and ‘80s to immersive 3D games and experimental controlling devices. The exhibition is presented in three sections: Arcade Heroes, Game Changers and Indies: Arcade Heroes spotlights pioneering designers from the trailblazing and revolutionary arcade era while leading contemporary designers who have had a major impact on shaping the medium as we know it are featured in the section Game Changers. The final chapter of the exhibition, Indies, explores the groundbreaking and future-focussed world of independent game designers. Furthermore the exhibition will be updated with new content, local designers and games will be included to showcase outstanding examples of the local and national gaming community and industry.
The exhibition was created and curated by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI). In cooperation with the initiative Creative Gaming, organizer of the PLAY - Creative Gaming Festival, the exhibition will be expanded by the perspective on Game Culture in Hamburg.
