BLAST! 2010 FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE FOR NORTH LANDS CREATIVE GLASS A very special feature of the Cohesion Glass Network's exhibition, BLAST! 2010 at ZeST Gallery is an exciting fundraising event created as a tribute to Dan Klein, the UKàŠ¼s pre-eminent glass advocate, writer and collector. Adam AaronsonàŠ¼s glass studio, adjacent to ZeST Gallery, has made a glass bowl for each of the artists participating in BLAST! Each artist has been invited to turn a bowl into a unique work of art using their individual ingenuity and creativity. All the bowls are priced at £125 each and the full proceeds of these one-off pieces will be donated to North Lands Creative Glass for Dan Klein's Memorial Fund. Nobody will know which bowl is by which artist until the bowl has been purchased. So for the small outlay of £125, everyone will have the opportunity to acquire an original work of art by an established or perhaps an emerging artist! Who can tell? ABOUT NORTH LANDS CREATIVE GLASS Dan Klein was a founder of North Lands Creative Glass and was largely responsible for its development as one of Europe's principal centres of excellence in glass making. When he passed away last year, the Dan Klein Memorial Fund was established to help develop North Lands' education programme and to provide additional state-of-the-art studio space. North Lands is situated in Lybster, a small fishing village on the North East Coast of Scotland, and is open not only to glass artists, but also painters, sculptors, architects and designers wishing to explore the technical and artistic potential of glass either on its own or in combination with other materials. It runs a series of summer master classes, an annual conference and artist residencies, and aims to stimulate a lively exchange of ideas whilst also allowing time for reflection and action in a professional environment. North Lands was born in the nineties out of a need to create a centre of excellence to stimulate the growing interest in the possibilities of glass as an art form.
