This collection of photographs was produced by a committed group of young people who participated in the first From Seeing To Showing project which is part of a three-year long programme being run by Zoom In.

From Seeing To Showing is a series of four workshops that took place over the summer of 2007 with the aim of promoting to its participants the concept of Volunteering. Through photography, creative exchange and team-spirit, the project strove to provide insight and valuable skills in teaching and running workshops, whilst simultaneously giving young people a means of self-expression.

Over the course of the four workshops, 48 young participants between the ages of 10 and 20 worked alongside professional photographer Adrian Wood and a team of Zoom In volunteers. The workshops ran for two weeks with each one overlapping the previous one: during the first week the young participants gained knowledge of basic digital photography, including technical camera skills, composition techniques and digital imaging. They were also introduced to medium format photography, studio lighting, and black and white printing. In the second week they returned as volunteers to demonstrate their knowledge of photography to the next group of young participants, requiring them to use and develop their team-building and learning/training skills. The project culminated in an open day event organised and run by the young participants which included photography demonstrations displaying the skills learnt and a public exhibition showcasing the high quality photographs taken during the project.

Through this exhibition we celebrate the hard work and acquired skills of all the young participants who made the first project such a success.

It is also an opportunity for more young people to sign up for the second From Seeing To Showing project which is will be taking place in July and August 2008. Please see the flyer for more details.
