The View from my window is an unspoilt rural scene. Recently however, there was a new addition to the view - a distant billowing of smoke from a chimney on what was once the site of an agricultural chemical plant, the contaminated soil being "cleaned" for redevelopment. The smoke appeared strikingly alien yet oddly, had a certain beauty in the way that it drifted gracefully in the breeze, and revealed different qualities of colour and intensity. Its dramatic effect became even more pronounced at night when it turned into smooth ghostlike streams. I decided to try and capture this duality, choosing various vantage points within a short radius of the site from which to record the presence of the smoke.
