Celebrating its fifth year, Friends with Books: Art Book Fair Berlin features 200+ international artists and art publishers and their art and art books.
About
The Fair is accompanied by public programmes including lectures, book presentations, panel discussions, performances and art installations that explore the range of contemporary artistic publishing.
The fair is free and open to the public, with up to 10,000+ visitors annually.
This year’s series of Installations by artists include Achim Lengerer (DE), Ingo Mittelstaedt (DE), Christoph Ruckhäberle (DE), Abigail Reynolds (UK), and Julie Sass (DK), among others. Performances include artists Andrea Brandão (PT), Disocteca Flaming Star (DE), and Jerôme Karsenti (CH). For the first time, a newly commissioned Children’s Area Installation will be featured at the fair, by artists Zora Mann (UK) and Øyvind Renberg (NO).
The annual Friends with Books Artist Poster Edition has previously featured Marc Bijl, Monica Bonvicini, Jonathan Monk, Heidi Specker, and Erik Steinbrecher, among others. 25 copies of each edition are signed and numbered at a price of 50 € to help support Friends with Books.
A complete list of exhibitors, participants and the contribution for the Artist Poster Edition will be announced in September 2018.
Every year new interviews by art critics with artists and art publishers are published on the Friends with Books Blog. This year’s interviews feature Chiara Carpenter (Archive Books, Berlin) and Andreas Koch (von hundert, Berlin).
Friends with Books is co-organised annually by co-founders Vanessa Adler (argobooks, Berlin) and curator Savannah Gorton. A non-profit organisation, Friends with Books offers greater visibility to contemporary artists' books and art publications, including an annual art book fair, public programming, and partnerships with art organisations and institutions, facilitating the engagement of diverse audiences with the book works of artists and publishers worldwide.
