For this month of July and August, Ashdown Gallery in Sussex is debuting Robert Meldrum and Jane Sellers Beach Chess Set.

About

Robert Meldrum is primarily an Artist working in mixed media, but for two years he was involved in a design project working in consultation with Jane Sellers. From Art practice beginnings Robert moved on to practical design in this creating working models for a contemporary Chess set that is very travel friendly, as well has having a very methodical touch piece system to aid a visually impaired player should they need it.

Jane provied the additional expertise but Robert in effect designed this funtion to aid his inabilty with touch, and to play to any kind of remote club standard.

Called French Defence after the opening, the series of Chess boards also took the ocean as a touchstone in their design.

One of the original prototypes is for sale with %50 going dierect to help support the innovation funded by R.P. Fighting Blindness, with the remainder going to Jane, Robert and the Gallery.
