“I’ll Swallow You is a conjured cocoon, a veneration of an intricate amalgamation of trauma-born characters, unlikely lullabies and other troubled rubble. What I heard was that a stained glass horror show crash-landed in the floral stomach of a surgically removed house. I saw it for myself! Lodged there, all defiant, intermittently floodlit like a strobed crime-scene, bouncing off the walls. The saddest static disco I’ve ever seen or heard (and I’ve seen loads). There’s a guy in a rainbow unicorn headdress sucking off the stomach of a disemboweled, quasi-kids cartoon character leaking toxic waste… I know it’s bad but I have to be honest, I’m pretty sure the first guy is Sigmund Freud.” Jennifer Longsmere-Smythe, 2022*
"Many flavours settle on the tongue but their carriers are bludgeoned by the same apathetic enzymes, the same mistrust. Just swallow it all for yourself, let it settle in the gut, burrow a little home for itself with the chewing gum. That which can’t be digested may be the very thing that swallows you.” Lord Macquinivire Parkinston, 2022*
“I went there and saw that disgraceful excuse for a sitting room masquerading as a church: I was horrified. I called my husband and asked him to pick me up at once, and pick up a bottle or two en route. But at the same time, somewhere deep down, it felt as though I’d swallowed a tiny seed. It felt like the first time I remember Little Red Riding Hood being read to me; the fear, the excitement, the borderline sexual attraction to the wolf.” Mrs H. L. M. Galbraithewaite, 2022*
“It was nice to be sung to, the colours were quite nice, I wasn’t sure about the scary men but Adidas is a good brand so it may have all been in good faith.” Peter Robinson, 2022*
*the people named are entirely figments of my inner monologue.
