About

Denise Bibro Fine Art, in Chelsea, NYC is pleased to announce the first exhibition of works by Frances Middendorf, entitled Sleepless Nights, running November 15 – December 15, 2018.

Middendorf’s career primarily focuses on drawing and painting. She currently lives and works in Rome and Rhode Island. Middendorf draws inspiration from observations of her environment in Rome, as well as from Roman history.

Middendorf’s Sleepless Nights series are drawings and paintings done of animal, human, and sculptural forms. Middendorf fuses the natural beauty of Italy with her interest in mythology to create a playful feminine perspective. Heavily inspired by anatomy and movement, she creates comparisons between animal and man while conveying similar characteristics in both. She also uses her innate sense of visual elements—light, space, and texture, to bring forth a dramatic and emotional element. The compositions depict Middendorf’s intrigue and love for drawing. Her works are boldly elegant.

Middendorf studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, RI (BFA) and the School of Visual Arts, NYC (MA). She later continued her studies at Columbia Journalism School, NYC; The New York Studio School, NYC; The International School of Art, Monte Castello di Vibio, Italy; Accademia di Belle Art, Preugia, Italy. She won the Le Colline di Pavese Prize for three consecutive years. Her art has been shown at galleries and institutions around New York, like the Tambaran Gallery, Westbeth Gallery, National Arts Club. Middendorf currently works at the Rome Art Program as part of the drawing faculty.

There will be an opening reception Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 6-8 PM. The artist will be there.
