Collyer Bristow presents Frame Thy Fearful Symmetry, an exhibition organised by the collaborative partnership Hi Barbara.

About

Frame Thy Fearful Symmetry is a group exhibition of contemporary artists who employ photography and gesture to challenge the authenticity of images. Through manipulation, staging, transformation and performance, the works engage with gesture as both a physical act and as an overt demonstration of authorship in order to frame narratives and represent unrealities. The relationship between vision and the body is also exposed through the direct representation of the link between image and object making and the manipulation of meaning through the ‘hand of the artist’.

The title, taken from William Blake’s famous poem The Tyger, alludes to the writer’s concerns with the relationship between creation, craftsmanship and subjectivity while also referencing the specificity and potential of photography as a medium that can ‘frame’ multiple versions of reality.

Hi Barbara is an evolving initiative set up by Helen Nisbet and Kay Watson to explore the potential of collaboration and collective practice in curatorial and visual art production. www.hibarbara.co.uk
