Fragments of Memory — Sadiq Toma Solo Exhibition 2010

About

Born in Baghdad in 1952 Sadiq Toma's upcoming exhibition ‘Fragments of Memory' explores his Iraqi roots and the influence of the Sumerian history within his work. The exhibition draws heavily on the Sumerian tradition tablets of cuneiform writings and Toma combines one ancient civilisation with a countries politically fraught history and personal memories to create a coherent body of moving work. Since graduating from the Fine Art Institute in Baghdad in 1974, Toma has freelanced across various artistic disciplines. This passion for the history and the willingness to teach others which has been the driving force behind his entire career is fully present in Sadiq Toma's solo exhibition ‘Fragments of Memory' which can be seen over both floors of the Artspace Gallery, London from May 3, 2010.
