About

Charlotte Mew is a multi media artist and visual poet who specialises in both the spoken and the written word. Her writing, which manifests itself in contemporary culture is rigorous yet restrained. From its conception at Kingston University and her time spent at the Jan van Eyck Akademie in the Netherlands her work has sought to cross language barriers and create new narratives by reinterpreting found dialogue and highlighting a hidden agenda. FOUND OUT a work in progress A series of found knitting patterns sit beside each other looking to engage in a dialogue. Rhyming couplets run alongside to capture a moment and suggest a scene. The mutual exchange invites an opportunity to view another perspective. The journey undertaken, though closely knit, loosely unravels. The patterns offer a comfortable yet restrained rosy glow of the world. The text running alongside allows an undercurrent of contemporary tension to step in. The work attempts to marry together the polite constrain of old with the contemporary spirit of new, an opportunity to refer and revive. contact charlotte@charlottemew.com
