About

Forty-seven drawings…  is an autumn solo exhibition by self-taught ‘outsider’ artist @stevexoh.

Whilst Steve is known for his colourful paintings, 3D cut-out street art and his unusual conceptual art projects, he is probably best known for his distinctive black and white drawings that he posts daily on Instagram. Somehow within the constraints of a 21 x 21cm sheet of paper and using a black pen, Steve manages to explore subjects ranging from existentialism and anxiety to how to operate Brian Eno and what slices of bread really think.

Steve is a self-taught artist who says that he makes art to help him make sense of the world.: “I make art because I find the world a fascinatingly bizarre place. I want my art to provoke moments of doubt, moments of delight, moments of confusion in order to encourage us to loosen our fixed ways of experiencing reality and find joy and wonder in the utter absurdity of being a weird hairless ape, standing on a big rock that is flying around a massive nuclear explosion.

Steve recently completed a 2-week solo residency at Yellow Edge gallery in Hampshire. Yellow Edge founder Steve Buggle says “Steve’s work appeals to many audiences and on many levels – it is idiosyncratic, humorous, provocative, versatile, thought-provoking, empathetic and often right on the money.”

Joel Levack, co-director of Changing Room Gallery, adds “We’ve always admired the work of stevexoh since it was introduced by fellow artist JP Flintoff. It was a surprise to find out that “Outsiders Welcome” was the first solo art exhibition of such a prolific talent. We were really hoping to get down to Gosport to see the show, but diaries wouldn’t allow it, so we decided to co-host a scaled-down version of the show, focusing on drawings. We are honoured Steve’s first London solo show is taking place in our latest Soho gallery space, a former building site office on Manette Street”

This exhibition at Changing Room Gallery showcases 47 of Steve’s recent drawings and runs from the 16th to the 21st of November.
