KMA Gallery is highlighting form and figuration for June, through unique original paintings by Carl Chapple and sculpture by Alison Coaten and Su Jameson, alongside a stunning mix of other artworks by our talented roster of artists.

With his residency at KMA coming to a close at the end of this month, Carl Chapple takes inspiration from classical and Renaissance painting and sculpture in his own rich gestural paintings of dancers. Time is limited to view these stunning paintings so do visit the gallery soon.

Alison Coaten’s new duo of sculptures, When I Grow Up Wolf and When I Grow Up Bear, feature human forms wearing animal heads. Alison’s artwork is centred around religious, spiritual and mythological iconography and our connection to these images. Here, sacred beliefs and fascination around animals, particularly when young are connected to a sense of playfulness and wonder.

An ensemble of softly coloured sculptures by Su Jameson invite viewers in to their introspective world. These expressive works explore what it means to be human, with all the joy, hardship and everything in between inherent in that. Su’s intuitive way of working means that there will always be something new to feel or discover when viewing her sculptures.

Also on show are the bright and layered paintings of Dawn Stacey, the characterful head sculptures of Mary Jones, reimagined historical portraits by PX Miranda, and contemporary Raku ceramic vessels by Stephen Murfitt, among many others.

These artworks are on view curated across two floors at Kellie Miller Arts, 20 Market Street.
