FORMAT is back with exhibitions, talks, events, conference, photobook market, workshops and more. Established by QUAD in 2004, it is now the UK’s leading festival of photography and related media.
About
FORMAT19 presents over 50 exhibitions, 200 international artists, over 30 days, including: portraits of Elvis impersonators and off-grid Siberian communities; documentary projects on the tribes of Native Americans and the post-conflict and wartime landscape of North Africa; a French treasure hunt for buried gold and the search for the truth behind the exclusive Bohemian Club in America - just a few of the many extraordinary photography stories to discover.
FORMAT19 will look at the zeitgeist of photography, how it is evolving and moving ever forward, while keeping a curatorial eye on its past and being constantly reinterpreted.
This ninth biennale of the festival incorporates Derby’s most beautiful buildings and key landmarks, plus satellite venues in nearby cities. FORMAT is organised by QUAD and DMARC (Digital and Material Artistic Research Centre) at the University of Derby.
FORMAT19 runs from the 15th March - 14 April 2019.
