For FORMAT15 we present an interdisciplinary conference at QUAD that takes as its starting point the main festival theme of ‘Evidence’. Each of the selected speakers – a number of whom are exhibiting work as part of FORMAT 15, with others selected from an open call for papers – explore the multi-faceted ways in which ‘Evidence’ can be gathered, examined, re-contextualised and disseminated. The conference day will feature talks by key invited speakers, panel discussions, PechaKucha sessions, culminating with a plenary.
The conference will cover work encompassing photography, moving image and the use of existing archives, teasing out further themes relating to the main Festival theme, such as: ‘Evidence & the Political’; ‘Heritage’, ‘Authenticity’, ‘Photojournalism’ and ‘Science’. The conference is presented in collaboration with QUAD, the University of Derby and the Digital and Material Arts Research Centre, University of Derby.
