Emily Caldwell's garments are inspired by metamorphosis, but are open to interpretation that relates to forms of change. Colour is limited because she focus's on structure, and is fascinated with the shadows within and around the garment.
About
In this instance the focus is on how a woman’s role has changed within society in the western world. Women have become more empowered and are no longer cocooned within domesticity; they now have the freedom to seek alternative and more ambitious roles. The garments are personal to Emily and reflect the change of character she's experience from sensitive events that have occurred during her upbringing; this includes mental illness, moving and family detachment.
