Reading & discussion session on the interrelation between the notions of the Third Spatiality and the Other, led by the curator Olga Tarasova.

About

Tarasova has complied a reading list to accompany the exhibition FOR/IN ITSELF and will discuss texts from this list during the session. The discussion will focus on phenomenology of perception and spaces in relation to psychoanalysis. The session will address the capability of spaces to contain ungraspable elements that are unavailable for human perception but yet manifest themselves in the experiences that affect the subject.

The reading & discussion group will observe Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s “Phenomenology of Perception”, “The Visible and the Invisible”, Jacques Lacan’s seminar “Anxiety” & Slavoj Žižek’s “Looking Awry”.

FOR/IN ITSELF reflects on the interrelation of sense, space and perception within artistic practices. Addressing the capability of the world to represent itself without being completely explicit, treating experience as an open totality of inexhaustible synthesis.
For the exhibition artists Matilda Moors and Svetlana Ochkovskaya imagine the gallery space as a creature, morphing it into a body.
