An exploration of Britain's landscape in literature by artist Richard Gilbert
About
The Chapel Gallery, Bromyard is hosting this solo short exhibition featuring the work of artist Richard Gilbert who has followed in the footsteps of poets and writers. It is the first time these oil paintings, which he has been working on since 2012, have been exhibited. This pop-up exhibition is a unique outing for recent work by an artist who rarely exhibits. The theme started when he followed the footpaths of the Lake District poets, but the series has since expanded, visiting Yorkshire, Wales and Ireland. He explores the interface between art, literature, and landscape. His paintings strive to capture both the aesthetic essence and the sense of place that can be found in writers as varied as Wordsworth, the Brontës and WH Auden, with locations as diverse as the Blasket Islands or the Welsh Marches. Underlying Richard Gilbert’s creative process and purpose is a fundamental appreciation that the more landscape is understood, the more fully it can be felt, and expressed. Richard Gilbert is a Hereford artist who has exhibited locally and nationally and has work in public and private collections. For more details go to the website www.thechapelbromyard.com
