Afghan artists with Good Chance Theatre, creators of The Jungle and The Walk with Little Amal, are inviting people across London and beyond to take to Parliament Hill and fly kites! Join us for a festival of solidarity filled with Afghan kite-flying, storytelling, music, poetry and dance.
About
On Saturday 20th August 2022, one year since the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban, people across the UK and Europe will remember and preserve Afghan culture through the simple, joyful act of kite flying. Together, we will commemorate an ancient art form which is once again under threat and call for the fair and equal treatment of all people seeking safety, including those from Afghanistan.
On Hampstead Heath, master kite-maker, Sanjar Qiam, creates bespoke Afghan kites on-the-day with messages for the world to ‘Remember Afghanistan’, musician and activist Elaha Soroor performs with her band, actor Elham Ehsas will open the event and award-winning poet Parwana Fayyaz shares her specially commissioned poem.
Help us make the skies alive with colour, and take part in a joyful festival of solidarity, creativity and connection.
Free and open to all!
