About

Philippa Johnson will be weaving an intricately patterned rug out of adhesive tape on the floor of the Utrophia Project Space. Focusing on surface and texture, Philippa makes use of ordinary products as her tools, highlighting a beauty from what is normally seen as mundane. She describes her work as a set of extended drawing techniques, bringing together familiar patterns and domestic materials. Often working in situ on site specific projects, she works with whitewashed shop windows, wallpaper, paint stripper and other everyday materials, using pattern and decoration to highlight the spaces themselves, offering a new way to experience and take notice of them. The making process of Floorwork is open to the public to view from Monday the 21st of February, then a private view will be held on Friday the 25th of February coinciding with Deptford Last Friday.
