Flesh Colour – art workshop led by Angélica Dass

Humanæ is an ongoing project documenting every human skin tone through portrait photographs. The project illustrates that skin colour and race are far more complex than the labels and categories that we are so often forced to fit ourselves into, inviting us all to reflect on and rethink our identities and what we have in common.

Flesh Colour is a workshop which invites participants to reflect on and deconstruct the stereotypical codes and associations between the colours white, black, red and yellow, and specific racial and ethnic groups. Participants will create artworks that represent their actual skin colour, in doing so calling into question the so-called ‘flesh-coloured’ pencils that are widely sold but which, in reality, only reflect the skin colour of a small proportion of people. The works produced during the workshop will subsequently form part of a display at the Migration Museum.

This workshop is free and open to all, with a specific focus on educators who are interested in learning how to lead this workshop themselves in schools and for community groups. The workshop is open to children over the age of 5. Please note that all children must be accompanied by an adult.
