About

FLAX (France Los Angeles Exchange) is pleased to partner with Tin Flats to present a series of programs including exhibitions, performances and drive-in movie screenings taking place through November 30 and bringing together artists from Los Angeles, France and beyond. The compelling series brings together California-based & French artists and beyond! Free and open to all, the opening reception for the opening reception for the new exhibition, The Tyranny of Distance takes place at Tin Flats on Thursday, Nov. 8th from 6-9 p.m. with a curatorial walk-through (with an unexpected reveal!) & reading of the book “Sydney, 1981.” The public is also welcome to come out on Saturday, Nov. 10th for a trailblazing performance from noon-3 p.m. with a showcase of artistic talent performing both at Tin Flats and simultaneously at ESBA in Angers, France. All performances will be viewable in both locations!

FLAX (France Los Angeles Exchange) program director Anna Milone oversees this compelling arts activation in partnership with TinFlats in the heart of Frogtown (1989 Blake Ave) focusing on the notions of process and translation—exploring the transition space in which they develop and the actions they offer. Opening Nov. 8 with a public reception from 6-9 p.m., The Tyranny of Distance takes place on two continents at the same time (Los Angeles and ESBA in Angers, France) with all the artists tackling the question of translation in time and space by presenting artworks in both places. These programs are complemented by a performance on Saturday, Nov. 10th with a showcase of artistic talent including Jasmin Blasco, David Lamellas, David Horvitz, Pierre Paulin and an activation of Spatial Poem #9 by Mieko Shiomi as well as weekly screenings presented in the parking lot of Tin Flats, which has been transformed into a drive-in theater. www.flaxfoundation.org/initiative/flax-tin-flats/
