Periclo is delighted to present new work by three emerging artists as part of a residency at Shelf Spanish City. 

Louis Palliser-Ames is a Liverpool-based artist. His collection of found images are extracted from a variety of sources such as educational texts, technical drawings, advertising and signage. The images are isolated, manipulated and flattened into a digital archive. Their classification and organisation results in a constantly shifting narrative or a dialogue between each individual element.

Originally from Wrexham, North Wales,  Neat Sleeper is based in Newcastle, studying Fine Art at Newcastle University. Neat Sleeper has developed a broad practice, which commonly finds inspiration in the mundane or everyday. His work frequently incorporates collage techniques and often results in nostalgic, imaginative, dream-like creations.

Primarily a painter, Ellie Young captures fleeting expressions and changing emotions, particularly the movements of the face that communicate these feelings. Her influences are films, the Internet and real-life encounters. Playing with cut outs and animation techniques, Young has most recently used recycled cardboard as a painting surface allowing for a playful restructuring of the images. Even once the painting process has finished these works can be modified into masks, flipbooks, lenticulars and other sculptural forms.

Periclo is a platform for risk and experimentation in contemporary visual arts. Based at Wrexham Glyndŵr University’s School Of Creative Arts, Periclo was founded in 2015. Originally conceived as a key component of Oriel Wrecsam’s exhibition programme prior to the organisation relaunching under the new name of Tŷ Pawb. Periclo now operates as an independent body, supporting practitioners to develop new ideas.
