‘Five Easy Pieces’ brings together abstract paintings and drawings by Susan Collis, Jeff McMillan, Jeremy Moon, Allyson Strafella and Alison Turnbull.
About
The exhibition was partly inspired by the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky’s composition in five movements (Andante, Espanola, Balalaika, Napolitana and Galop), created in 1917, exactly one hundred years ago and draws on equally different styles and characters, unified by shared influences: the painstaking drawing ‘And Tomorrow’ (Susan Collis) of the surface cracks in Malevich’s ‘Black Suprematic Square’ for example or 'Old Street Dust’ (Alison Turnbull) - a loosely geometric composition of graphite on canvas a detail of the façade of a rectangular building on Old Street.
