People who have saved this event:

Two groups of Newham women each attended a four-week New Parent and Baby Art Course.  Facilitated by Kelly Drake the sessions consisted of one hour of guided group-work followed by supported art making.  The group space was ‘held’ carefully so women could feel safe to share intimate stories, thoughts, feelings and memories about the experience of birth, mothering, night-times and their own particular manifestation of parenting.

What occurred was magic…women who wouldn’t have thought of themselves as artists made beautiful heartfelt work and experienced a new sense of creativity. This show is the result. Rather than the usual idealised version of motherhood these works show real experience.  We hope you enjoy the work and come back again and again to look. The First 1,000 Days of being a parent (pregnancy to two years) are now accepted to be the most significant in a child’s development. Experts worldwide agree that care given during the First 1,000 Days has more influence on a child’s future than

any other time in their life. Ask most parents,

and chances are they’ll say that the First 1,000 Days also present some of the most challenging moments in a person’s life. And with each new baby comes a whole new set of priorities, dilemmas and challenges.
