Finger 10 February — 30 March 2012 Hidde van Seggelen Gallery is pleased to present Finger, a group exhibition curated by Richard Bevan and Damian Taylor. The exhibition will include works by six artists: Ed Atkins, Richard Bevan, Sean Edwards, Sophie Michael, Mali Morris and Damian Taylor. Ed Atkins Ed Atkins was born in 1982, in the United Kingdom. He works predominantly in high-definition video, drawing, and writing to explore thoughts around materiality and corporeality. His recent solo projects include Tate Britain and Cabinet Gallery, London, both 2011. Recent group exhibitions include 'A Dying Artist', ICA, London (2011), 'Time Again', Sculpture Center, New York (2011) and 'An Echo Button', with James Richards and Haroon Mirza, for Performa 2011. He will also be exhibiting in a group exhibition The Language of the Flowers and the Stars curated by Andy Holden at Cubbitt Gallery, London from 17 February to 16 March 2012. He was shortlisted for the Jarman Award, 2011. In 2012 he will present solo projects at Chisenhale Gallery, London, and Galerie Isabella Bortolozzi, Berlin Richard Bevan Richard Bevan was born in Maesteg in 1980. He gained his BA in Fine Art at University of Wales Institute Cardiff in 2002, and his MA in Fine Art at The Slade School of Fine Art, London in 2008.His recent solo exhibitions include The Difference Between The Name Of Something And What It Does, Cell Project Space, London, There must be happy endings (2008), Coexist, Southend and PP, Limoncello, London, all in 2011, and ‘A' is not equal to ‘A', Quare, London in 2010. He is currently exhibiting in Young British Art2 at Dienstgebäude in Zürich. Other recent group exhibitions include Maquettes, Furnished Space, London, Portmanteau, Halle 14, Leipzig, and Young British Art, Limoncello, London, all in 2011; Liste, with Tanya Leighton (Berlin), Basel, Hen Ji, Hangzhou, China, and For the Sake of the Image, Jerwood Space, London, all in 2010. Bevan lives and works in London. Sean Edwards Sean Edwards was born Cardiff in 1980. He gained his BA Fine Art at University of Wales Institute in 2003, and his MA Fine Art from The Slade School of Fine Art, London in 2005. His recent solo exhibitions include Remaining Only, Tanya Leighton, Berlin and Maelfa, Spike Island, Bristol in 2011; Putting Right, Limoncello, London and No Dust Adheres, Outpost, Norwich, both in 2010; Tanya Leighton Gallery, Berlin in 2009; ICA, London, Super, Paris and It's Not What We Wanted But We'll Settle, Moot, Nottingham, all in 2008. Recent group exhibitions include The Shape We're In, Zabludowicz Collection in 2011; Quantos Queres, Galeria Marz, Lisbon and A very, very long cat, Wallspace Gallery, New York, both in 2010; A Troubling Metamorphosis of Loose Ideas into Cast Forms, Lisson Gallery, London in 2009; Dogtooth and Tessellate, The Approach, London in 2008. Edwards lives and works in Abergavenny. Sophie Michael Sophie Michael was born in 1985. She gained her BA in Fine Art at The Slade School of Fine Art, London in 2008, and she will complete her Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art at the Royal Academy Schools in 2012. Her recent solo exhibition, Intra-spectral, opened at The Gallery at Idea Store Whitechapel, London, in January 2012. Recent film screenings and group exhibitions include: Spectrum Shorts: Chromotherapeutic Strips, Rotterdam International Film Festival, 2012; Alternative Visions; Space is the Place: Recent Avant Garde Shorts, Pacific Film Archive, University of California, Berkeley, 2011; Wavelengths 1: Analogue Arcadia, 36th Toronto International Film Festival, Toronto; A Past Merely Overlaid With Presentness, Culture Lab OnSite, Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne; and Sirdar Road, 19 Sirdar Road, London. Michael lives and works in London. Mali Morris Mali Morris was born in North Wales. She gained her BA Fine Art from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and her MFA from the University of Reading. She has exhibited nationally and internationally since 1979. Recent group exhibitions include Precious Things, Highlanes Gallery, Drogheda, Ireland, 2008, meta -; Ruskin Gallery, Cambridge, 2009; Tag, New London Painting, Brown Gallery, London, 2010; Fade Away, Transition Gallery, London and Gallery North, Newcastle upon Tyne, 2011. Mali Morris: Small Works was at the Royal Academy Friends' Room in December 2010, touring to The Cut, Halesworth in June 2011. Her next solo show is at Oriel Mostyn Gallery, Llandudno, in March 2012. Morris's work is part of private and public collections internationally, including the Arts Council England, British Council, Contemporary Arts Society, Government Art Collection, National Museum Wales and the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester. Morris lives and works in London. In 2009 she was chair of the selection panel for Jerwood Contemporary Painters and is currently the Selector/Mentor for the Jerwood Painting Fellowships, 2012-13. In March 2010 she was elected as a Member of the Royal Academy of Arts. Damian Taylor Damian Taylor was born in 1984 in Oxford. He gained his BA in Fine Art (Painting) at Chelsea College of Art and Design, London in 2007, and his MA in Fine Art (Painting) at The Slade School of Fine Art, London in 2009. His forthcoming solo exhibitions include Quare Gallery, London and Hobbs Mclaughlin at Balfron Tower, London, both in 2012. Recent solo exhibitions include Just one more thing, Hidde van Seggelen Gallery, London in 2011; Paintings..., Hidde van Seggelen Gallery, London, ... and other Things, Hidde van Seggelen Gallery, London, both in 2010 and Translating Documents, De Nederlandsche Cacaofabriek, The Netherlands in 2009.
