Join us for the screening of Qiu Jiongjiong's imaginative historical epic A New Old Play 椒麻堂会, presented as part of our Whose Homeland extended programme that explores ideas of migration diaspora identity and home with stories created by Chinese and Chinese mixed heritage filmmakers.
About
The leading "clown" role in a renowned theatre troupe passes on, and is welcomed into the Underworld. As he relives his vivid memories one last time before entering the afterlife, fifty years of art, struggle and love play out against the background of 20th-century China’s tumultuous history.
Following the screening, we'll be joined by director Qiu Jiongjiong on zoom for a Q&A.
Sine Screen is an emerging screening organisation dedicated to showing independent cinema from China and across East and Southeast Asia.
