REINVENTION presents the work of ten artists selected by curator, Erin Przekop of Fiercely Curious, for their ability to break away from what they already know, moving into uncharted (and often uncomfortable) territory to reimagine, recreate and explore new meanings within their own work.
"I've grown weary of much of what's been going on in politics recently, however, there's been a lot of change for good as well. For example, there has been an influx of people vocalizing about their personal experiences with sexual harassment and assault. Sadly, this has gone on for far too long, but finally we are recognizing that it is unacceptable behavior. I often revisit a quote by President Obama, "You know, the path this country has taken has never been a straight line. We zig and zag and sometimes we move in ways that some people think is forward and others think is moving back. And that's OK."
So with this in mind, I am thinking about "REINVENTION". Taken out of the political context, each of us during our lives undergoes a desire to reinvestigate who we are, who we want to become for our future selves. I have visited many studios lately where I have seen artists push themselves out of their comfort zone to try something new, work within new parameters, new styles, use different materials challenging themselves to be better artists. I respect their tenacity and this show celebrates each of their (and inspires our own) pursuits of reinvention."
