About

Collaboration runs as a seam of critical enquiry through the work of Faisal Abdu'Allah. His most recent project with 15 young people aged 16—24 from across east London, resulted in a new artist collective named Lifetime, whose first ever project explored their role as witness and surveyor of contemporary life. For White (Why Have I Told Everything), Abdu'Allah reflects on this project, and examines the hidden stories found in archival surveillance films and reports. Using as his starting point, the Cable Street Riot of 1936, which saw the metropolitan police facilitating a Fascist march through the predominantly Jewish area of east London, the artist brings together an installation including archive footage, documentation and photoetchings of this important political event. Abdu'Allah is a senior lecturer at the University of East London and lives and works in west London. Previous projects have included collaborations with architect David Adjaye and artist Christian Boltanski. He has exhibited at Chisenhale Gallery, and been artist in residence at the Serpentine Gallery.
