‘Fair Art Fair Curated II - Womxn’ will be a physical manifestation of the Fair Art Fair digital platform, with the collection of works being chosen from artists on the app and curated by leading industry curators Jo Baring and Beth Greenacre.

About

Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop is thrilled to be hosting its second Fair Art Fair Curated exhibition: ‘Fair Art Fair Curated II - Womxn’. This show will be a physical manifestation of the Fair Art Fair digital platform, with the collection of works being chosen from artists on the app and curated by leading industry curators Jo Baring and Beth Greenacre.

Passionate about developing its mission to democratise the art world, Fair Art Fair is delighted to partner with these two trailblazing womxn curators, in order to challenge the sector’s gender disparity by offering an exciting opportunity for womxn artists to exhibit their work in Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop’s prominent London space.

Jo Baring and Beth Greenacre have searched through the Fair Art Fair app for 20 womxn creatives, utilising their unrivalled industry knowledge and long-established reputations to hand-pick pieces for this unprecedented group show. This exhibition offers exceptional visibility for Fair Art Fair’s womxn artists, turning the journey of discovery into an experiential reality.

Fair Art Fair advocates for a circular economy. It is committed to being a socially responsible destination for collectors and promises 0% commission on all app sales for artists. Similarly to its digital arena, the proceeds from this physical exhibition will go directly to the artists, assisting the evolution of their practices and cultivating a community of fellowship.

“Thankfully we are currently seeing more and more challenges to the age-old white heterosexual male outlook within the art world and the market.

In recent years the market for work by women has been experiencing an upward trend. However according to Julia Haplerin and Charlotte Burns for Artnet News and Art Agency Partners, between 2008 and 2019 women made just 2% of the worldwide auction market.

Beyond the auction world female artists remain under-represented; in 2019 the representation of living female artists in commercial galleries in London was up 4% over two years but was still only 32%. Whilst the non-commercial sector is thankfully making bigger strides towards equality.

The opportunity for change continues to remain huge and, in the marketplace, the potential growth for work by women identifying artists is significant. Fair Art Fair is a brilliant example of how we can use technology in an innovative and pioneering way to respond to an art market which can often feel outdated. And as always, I am thrilled to devote time to supporting female identifying artists.” – Beth Greenacre

“I am thrilled to work alongside Beth Greenacre to curate this exhibition. It’s very easy to resort to hand-wringing and despair and the continued shocking statistics of gender disparity in the arts. Action such as this exhibition create change and i am happy to give my time to give opportunities such as this for artists to be seen.” – Jo Baring
