About

During this virtual event, you’ll have the distinct opportunity to get to know the artists’ stories and inspirations behind their artworks. AMOCA Exhibitions Manager Pam Aliaga will guide this discussion with featured Fahrenheit artists, offering thoughtful insights and facilitating sincere conversations.

The panel will be followed by a Q&A session, where you’ll have the opportunity to pose your own questions to the artists.

Chidi Ukwuoma (b. 1980 in Los Angeles, California) creates polymorphic ceramic sculptures and collage pieces. His diverse artistic journey began during the late-90s in Los Angeles when he was a student at Art Center College of Design, focusing on Photography. Later, he shifted his focus to ceramics, learning under the guidance of Melvino Garretti at St. Elmo’s Village, a community center established following the 1965 Watts Rebellion to support the local community. Ukwuoma’s art spans various disciplines and explores themes of tradition and identity, with a particular emphasis on culturally significant forms, symbolism, and mythology. His creative process involves a fusion of representation and abstraction, offering fresh perspectives on familiar concepts. While recognized for his innovative work in ceramics, he has a wide-ranging artistic vocabulary that extends beyond a single medium.

Wansoo Kim is an artist and educator who currently resides in Tennessee. He earned his MFA in Studio Art from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and his BFA in Ceramic Art and Design from Seoul National University of Science and Technology in South Korea. Since coming to the United States in 2013, Kim has actively pursued his career as an artist, showing his works regularly in solo and group exhibitions. Recent solo exhibitions include Jane Hartsook Gallery at Greenwich House (New York, NY; 2022), Watkins College of Art at Belmont University (Nashville, TN; 2022), and Appalachian Center for Crafts (Smithville, TN; 2022). He recently participated in group exhibitions at Red Arrow Gallery (Nashville, TN; 2023) and Whitespace (Atlanta, GA; 2023). He currently teaches at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN.
