Press Release

Expression Martini ², Double Shot, a collaborative exhibition at The Hoxton Arches Gallery following the success of the first Expression Martini which took place in 2016. Three years later, Expression Martini's flame is re-ignited, and we plan to keep it burning.

Expression Martini is an umbrella style creative hub in which all forms of art and new attitudes in contemporary exhibitions bond together to create a new and fresh way of viewing art. This year, Double Shot will showcase Painting, Sculpture, Performance, Film, Photography, Installation and Sound. Bringing makers together from all corners of the art industry, mixing Fine Artists with Illustrators, Film Makers and Performers, connecting their work together with no pretentious barriers, competition or negativity. Double Shot reminds us that art should not intimidate the uninitiated audience and instead encourage and welcome every type of human being to embrace each other and our world. Expression Martini aims to bring together all forms of expression, and mix them together into a delicious mARTini, available for everyone to taste!

Showcasing new works of varied mediums by ten emerging artists from different backgrounds- some of which are new collaborators and some who showcased with Expression Martini back in 2016 - Motunrayo Akinola, Vikki Chin, Bill Daggs, Zachariah Riley, Milena Szymanek, Weronika Szymanek, Mary Watt & Ellie Redfern, Mitchell Winthorpe and Evelina Zakharov have come together for another immersive night of art and music with experimental performances from Faith Nandy and Femmetasia on the opening night. The exhibition will commence in the evening of the 18th March 2019, 18:00 until 21:00 and will be open the following day meaning this is a flying event in the heart of East London. This is a new collaboration with this selection of artists who all explore new ideas and attitudes in contemporary art through their practise whilst living as artists in today’s immediate and ‘Instagramable’ world.

All ten artists effectively blur the boundaries of conventional ideas of artistic material in their use of mediums, concepts and compositions. Hoxton Arches Gallery transforms into a playful and honest group show in which all of the artists explore their contemporary practice through inspiration of being sound people in a not so Politically sound London. Where art should be an escape from reality, in today’s modern London we are constantly feeling intimidated by contemporary art, and therefore disconnected forgetting the original purpose of art in doing so. Expression Martini invites you to enjoy the experience of a series of relationships between work created by fun-loving artists and welcomes visitors to be uplifted and feel embraced by the show. Leading on from the first Expression Martini, not only does Double Shot ask new questions about contemporary art, but it also demonstrates how powerful the world is when we all come together bringing inspiration from different cultures and backgrounds together.

If visitors are interested in purchasing work, please contact artists directly or contact Vikki Chin.
