EXPOSED LANDSCAPES, an new photography series by Tineke van Veen, investigates nuclear contaminated landscapes through multilayered interpretations and innovative techniques in photography.

Der Radioaktivität in einem nuklear verseuchten Gebiet ausgesetzt zu sein, kann lebensbedrohlich wirken, weil wir diese mit unseren Sinnen nicht wahrnehmen können. Das Konzept der Aussetzung, der „Exposition“, ist der Ausgangspunkt für eine Reihe neuer fotografischer Arbeiten, die die verstrahlte Landschaft untersuchen. Die Auseinandersetzung mit der Frage, wie die nukleare Landschaft heute erforscht werden kann und wie diese Landschaft wiederum uns erforschen kann, führt zu einem neuen Forschungsansatz und schafft Raum für eine aktive Beschäftigung mit dem Nichtmenschlichen. Exposed Landscapes nutzt neue Techniken und Materialien, um vielschichtige Fotografien zu schaffen, die eine fremd gewordene Realität widerspiegeln.Tineke van Veen ist bildende Künstlerin aus den Niederlanden. Ihre künstlerische Forschung und Praxis kreist um den Begriff der Sicherheit. Seit 2012 liegt der Schwerpunkt vor allem auf nuklear verseuchten Landschaften. Ihr Hauptmedium zur Erforschung unseres nuklearen Erbes ist die Fotografie. Daneben arbeitet sie auch mit Film, um die verborgenen Gefahren der Strahlung zu visualisieren. Ihre Arbeiten wurden in nationalen und internationalen Ausstellungen und auf Filmfestivals gezeigt.

Exposure to radioactivity in a nuclear contaminated area can be life threatening because our senses fail to recognize it. The concept of 'exposure' is the starting point for a series of new photographic works which investigate the irradiated landscape. Looking at how the nuclear landscape can be explored today and how this landscape can in turn explore us, opens up the research process and creates space for active engagement with the non-human. Exposed Landscapes uses new techniques and materials to create multi-layered photographs that interpret an alienated reality.
Tineke van Veen is a visual artist based in the Netherlands. Her artistic practice and research revolve around the concept of safety and since 2012 her focus has been the nuclear contaminated landscape. While her primary medium to explore our nuclear legacy is photography, she also works with film to visualize the hidden threats of radiation. Her work has been shown in national and international exhibitions and film festivals.
