A One Day Experimental Oil Painting Workshop with Zarina Keyani

About

Easily create beautiful abstract oil paintings using a variety of paints and mediums. Explore and experiment with colour, form, and expressive techniques. Students will experiment with different paints on various paper-based surfaces. Ideal for beginners but also suitable for artists looking to try something new.

Course aims and skills/knowledge to be taught :

• To experiment with different paints and mediums to create beautiful semi abstract and abstract paintings.

• Using oil painting techniques and various paper based surfaces including prepared surfaces.

• Tools and equipment.

• How to choose a colour palette and mix colours.

• Surface preparation.

• How to start a painting.

• What makes a successful painting.

• When a painting is finished

• How to evaluate and critique your work.

Course outline for the day:

• Zarina will introduce the aims and content of the workshop.

• The group will begin with imagery aesthetics. What makes a great oil painting.

• Zarina will talk about; surface, palette, mediums, and the best paints to use for the best results.

• Zarina will demonstrate step by step, creative semi abstract techniques using paint to visualise.

• The group will paint along, completing all the painterly tasks.

• Zarina will explain how to evaluate the created works and what makes a good painting.

• The group will have opportunities during the session to ask questions and evaluate each other’s work.

• Zarina will talk about colour and tone, light and dark, composition, balance and colour palette.

• The group will continue completing all the painterly tasks.

• Zarina will explain how to evaluate the created works and how to build on what you have created in this session.

• The group will have opportunities during the session to ask questions and critique each others work.

• At the end of the session there will be a group critique.
