An exhibition of Prints, Drawings, Paintings and Sculpture

About

This exhibition comprises a collection of paintings, prints and drawings in a range of media and subject matter.

Charlotte Harker’s paintings of landscapes originate from places once visited and experienced. The examples in this exhibition show fringe urban locations and ancient monuments.

The exception is Magnolia, a corner of a suburban park close to the Artist’s home. This park in Pinner, Middlesex has also provided source material for the artist’s series of trees drawings and prints some examples of which are in this exhibition. Part of an ongoing series, this work is influenced by the woodblock prints, screenprints and graphic art of contemporary China and 19th Century Japan.

Charlotte Harker’s drypoint prints are examples of recent work which develop the artist’s drawing practice.

Tom Hogan’s practice has focused on drawing since he moved back to his native London three years ago. Employing an intuitive and playful approach, he attempts to accentuate both economy of line and speed or rhythm of mark making. These characteristics have been further developed through running his own creative workshops and experimenting with non-traditional materials, such as galvanised wire.

For this exhibition, Tom has exhibited drawings in a range of media.

His figurative compositions are contrasted with examples of Charlotte Harker’s portrait paintings and prints. Ultimately, however, the two artists’ practices are united through the importance of drawing.

The exhibition is an opportunity for each artist to reflect on their work in different media and to consider similarities and differences in their work and working practice.

The exhibition has been displayed in the form of a salon style. This refers to groupings of art that extend higher and lower than the traditional eye-level single row or “museum-style” hanging. In this way the artists have arranged the display of the work to emphasise similarity and difference and to consider how an artists practice evolves and is ever changing.
