AboutâI am an artist working plein air in the South Downs National Park. I create bold, contemporary landscape paintings that are all made outside from life.
My drawings and paintings are a record of this - focusing on the moment and fixing me in the event, each painting takes about an hour to complete. My marks describe what I am looking at and thinking about during that time. By using an open white ground I am able to place marks and colours clearly and simply on the canvas in response to the freedom and openness I experience.'
Maff studied at Winchester School of Art and Hochschule Der Kunste [Berlin] and has worked continuously as an artist since graduating in 1995. During this time his work has developed from conceptual installations through large scale abstracts to the landscapes you see here.
